Coxswain Franco Arieta is calling this race during my fourth and last straight victory at the 2001 Pac-10 Rowing Championships with Robert King, Mike Wallin, Eric Tiret, Jack Nunn, Ivan Zoran Smiljanic, Magnus Fleming, and Neil Amour. (With Coach Steve Gladstone) This race was as intense as Franco called it while going off the line at around a 45-48 stroke rate and rowing the first 500 meters in a headwind in very fast time of 1 minute 22 seconds. We finished over a length ahead of rival Washington beating them by over 5 seconds. Every coxswain should hear this and take away something from it while calling their own rowing race in a boat.
