Craig Mather Statement RANGERS Chief Executive Craig Mather has tonight issued the following statement: Everyone associated with Rangers Football Club is looking forward to Saturday’s opening league game against Brechin City at Ibrox and it will be fantastic to see Sandy Jardine back to unfurl the championship flag in front of a packed Stadium. Unfortunately, it has been another week dominated by non-football issues but the Club appreciates the support of the fans who have backed their team yet again in huge numbers. More than 34,000 fans have already bought season tickets ahead of this weekend’s league game and that speaks volumes for the commitment, loyalty and passion the fans have for their club. Also, the Puma home kit went on sale today and first-day sales are through the roof. The summer signings featured at Ibrox for the first time during Tuesday’s game against Newcastle so there is no doubt the signs are positive for a good campaign on the pitch. Ally McCoist and the players will receive a great ovation from the fans on Saturday afternoon and we all hope non-football matters are not allowed to detract from what the manager and his staff will be setting out to achieve throughout 2013/14 and beyond. The Club respects supporters have a right to voice their disapproval at recent attempts to create turmoil and is aware fans will want to register their feelings. But we must always remember that the team comes first. Saturday should not be about individuals, it should be a celebration and a day when the players and fans can come together. We should always remember that Rangers is a 141-year-old institution and no matter how often people on the outside try to deflect attention away from the many good things and the positive work being done behind the scenes we have to remain focused. Your Club is being rebuilt and the work is gaining momentum so let’s remember what is important: Winning together. That is the Rangers way.-CM
