Cranium Call-out - Awh. Someone doesnt have a sense of humor. So for those of you who are comically impaired, a bit of advice... If a producer from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart or The Cobert Report or the upcoming Minority Report, slated to replace Coberts show, contacts you and invites you to be interviewed for whatever reason, on whatever issue, you best just assume youre going to be made the butt of a joke. And, yeah, if you happen to hold an unpopular or controversial belief or happen identify yourself as conservative - know its probably assured you will be. That way when or if you find yourself a part of a faux segment edited solely for comic effect... you wont be upset about having been made fun of or set up to be a part of a joke. Because youre only going to make yourself look even foolish when you whine that you were! Jon Stewart and his show The Daily Show are widely considered the pinnacle for offering the zeitgeist of Progressive satirical humor in America today. Jon Stewart, his writers and the show offer brilliant, often biting commentary on American politics and society - as well as the worlds. So much so, Jon Stewart is currently simultaneously promoting his new film Rosewater, which chronicles events surrounding Iranian Journalist Maziar Baharis 118 day captivity, interrogation and torture at the hands of the Iranian government after participating in a The Daily Show satirical report called Behind the Veil - Minaret of Menace with faux correspondent Jason Jones. Part of the humor offered throughout Rosewater, deftly used throughout the film to break intensity of the events it depicts, is how Baharis captors and torturers just dont get the joke. Not getting the joke only makes the joke funnier. So if you tend not to dont get the joke or find yourself in a situation where you might be used unwittingly to set a joke up - I promise you, its best not do participate. Because that just makes the joke that much more humorous. Hey - if youre going to go on the Howard Stern show, dont be a humorless prude. Or on the Rush Limbaugh show, best not be a fervent, uptight liberal. And to the conservative community - dont get your panties in a wad when youre the butt of jokes on The Daily Show. Listen, I abhor the Fox News station. In my mind, they get it wrong almost all of the time. But they deftly serve their demographic. As well as abundant fodder for writers of The Daily Show. So be it. Theyve cornered the markets of old, under-educated, easily prone to conspiracy theories, white, angry people with too much time on their hands. msnbc, with half the market share, isnt able to garner enough from their market demographics to pull a higher share. It is what it is. Liberal Talk Radio failed not because there arent liberals in America, but because liberals just dont listen to a formate similar to conservative talk radio. Isnt that part of the basis for conservative attacks on NPR? Because the Public Radio formate is more likely to appeal to Liberals or Progressives. You know... smart ones. Those requiring a modicum of intellectual thought to process. Like The Daily Show. So you have to appreciate the set up for the joke, also done with faux correspondent Jason Jones, of the debate on The Daily Show complained of here. Supporters of the name Redskins for the Washington DC football team were told they were going to debate those who oppose the use of the name. What they werent told is that the opposing side would consist of actual Native Americans. Hilarity ensued. Come on... thats kind of a brilliant set-up. Now those supporters of the continued use of the name Redskins are all offended, having felt duped and embarrassed, and are seeking to get The Daily Show cancelled. Which makes the joke even funnier. Awh. Gosh guys, your upset because you were unjustifiably abused for being who you are and standing up for your belief that Redskins isnt offensive. Why youre just like an abused minority community. Like Native Americans. Huh. Thats a whole new level of funny if you ask me. But then I love Jon Stewart and The Daily Show. * Notice the picture, by the way, used by cnsnews as part of their headline Cancel the Unethical Daily Show. Its of President Obama with Jon Stewart. How brilliant is that!? As if that makes it even more offensive. Few members of any political party or leaders of a particular ideology miss coming on The Daily Show to promote the candidacy, book, campaign. So cnsnews could have used any photo - from John McCain or Grover Cleveland to Bill Clinton or Naomi Kline.
