Crate on the Beach Walking the beach, I see a crate I stop for a moment, gaze and wait Taken by complete surprise what secrets brought in by the tide Must surely in the crate reside Soon imagining weaves its spell I listen for stories it will tell Ah, sunken treasure washed ashore Coins, jewels, trinkets, galore Perchance a gift arriving too late Message in a box, following its fate Toys forgotten when thunder came Wooden crate bearing no name Do you deceive... you look mysterious Are you hiding things sinister, serious? Are you reaching with unfriendly hand To come and taint my soft, white sand Shall I run away... with fear and doubt Or ask, "what am I all about?" Stop dark thoughts before it destroys Open the crate... it it the toys? Empty! Except for one pink seashell Thus ends the talk the crate came to tell
