Crawling Chaos Racing #486 Race Recap #dirtriot central series #2 #canyonsoffroadpark #werocklive Well weve been very busy in our personal lives, with work and other family obligations, Mike and I were unable to give the car an adequate prep for the race at Canyons Off Road Park. Luckily we know the terrain at the park quite well. I had only actually driven the course one time before prerunning and that was not at speed. I think I drove the whole course in a bulldozer or a bobcat in the weeks leading up to the race. As we start prerunning I realize that the course is a lot tighter than I thought it was going to be, its amazing how big a space feels at 2mph on a bulldozer and how small the same space feels at 45-50 mph in a race car!! Preran one lap and called it good. Race day: For qualifying I drew the unlucky #1 spot :( oh well! We went out and put down a decent time of 1.26 (I think) good enough for a 7th starting position. Perfect, just what we were looking for middle of the pack. Green flag drops and we take off, first couple laps were trying to get in a groove and find all the right lines on the new course. Things were going well then Mike lets me know we had about 20psi oil pressure, sometimes more sometimes less. Next time around pit, we pull in and add a quart, pressure rises about 40. Still taking it easy and watching the gauge closely, we make another lap and pit for another 2 quarts. Now we have pressure about 70-80 or so at high rpm (what it used to read all the time). Now its time to make up some time. Sometime in the next lap Dave Gutwillig comes over the radio and tells me we need to kick grandma out of the car and get to racing. So we pick up the pace, next lap or couple laps later we get the white flag and Dave reports we are 9 seconds behind Chris Sommer and in 4th place. I could smell podium! We put the hammer down and lay down the 3rd fastest lap time of the day. Another note about this lap is that we lost pretty much all of our brakes sometime earlier in the race, which made it very interesting. Driving hard on the last lap paid off and we came across the line for a 3rd place finish!!! Next time MORE PREP! The lack of oil was most likely just something I had overlooked, I had been having problems with my accumulator lately and I guess this was a result. We finished 2:05 off the leader and I know we spent more time in the pits than that......but that racing! I want to thank all of our team and sponsors: BRAVE Motorsports, Pedernales Brewing Co., 4wd Factory, Canyons Offroad Park, Rugged Radios, BFGoodrich Tires. All the Brave guys for the pit support. Thanks to all my family and friends that came to watch, it means a lot to see yall there. Lynette Crenwelge Pehl Urquhart, Kay Taylor And last but not least thanks to all the competitors that came out to race, it wouldnt be a race with out yall. Also Rich C Klein, Shelley Krehbiel, and Josh England it wouldnt be a #dirtriotfamily without you guys! Cant wait until Altus!!!
