Crazy Chinese Women After a walk today, I sat in a café. A young Chinese woman was sitting at the next table talking loudly on her phone. Chinese are the only people on earth louder than Americans. (Other than drunk British.) Soon, another young Chinese woman came and sat with her. The second woman was very excited, and was pointing at the back of her own neck, and at her legs. She was wearing shorts. (Nice legs.) They rambled on, very loudly for a couple of minutes. Finally I interrupted, saying to be careful for mosquitoes here. I thought they were talking about mosquitoes. I said to get some spray. There is dengue here. The woman who was excitedly pointing at her legs spoke some English. She said it was not mosquitoes, but she got into the sun and was afraid she would turn black. “I will turn black!” she said, laughing. She was disturbed, but smiling and laughing at the same time. (I just posted on this skin-thing a couple days ago.) They asked where I am from. I said America, and that American women want to have skin that looks like theirs, but you crazy Chinese women want white skin. The English speaker translated and they both laughed, saying it is true.
