Crazy car story for the week. The front left side brake in my wifes car failed and hit metal on metal earlier this week, its an automatic and so good brakes are kind of essential. I just gave her my car and chose to keep driving hers around until I could get time booked in with my mechanic. To take the strain off the front brakes I spent my time using a combination of the gear-shift (its an automatic) and hand-brake to slow it down at lights etc. I only used the foot-brake (front brakes) in earnest when I needed to come to a complete stop. I was also simultaneously lightly pushing the foot-brake pedal just enough so that the stop lamps on the rear of the car would come on to warn folks behind me that I was slowing or stopping. I got really good at this and it became second nature very quickly. The car has now been to the mechanic and is right as rain again. My mechanic is such a car whisperer, our cars always comeback feeling and driving fantastically well, so worth the few days it took for a space to open up in his workshop.
