Crazy night!!! Heres the backstory of the BOOM story in the weather office: Calls start coming in from Raleigh/Boone about a large boom. Check with 911 centers and no emergency calls. Brain automatically goes to weather mode - two possibilities under cloudy skies - 1) the frozen earth cracking boom - which isnt happening because its too warm or 2) a blast on the ground like a surface mine and the shock waves getting ducted in the atmosphere. Thats PLAUSIBLE because we recently saw that happen. So thats offered from a WEATHER standpoint - forgetting mines stop blasting at night. Offered as POSSIBLE, THEN recalled the usual halt to blasting at night (with thanks to some kind viewers who helped snap me out of weather mode and into reality mode). So, puzzled again. THEN calls come in from areas - including other STATES where there WAS NO cloud coverage saying at the time of the boom, people saw a flash or a shooting star - which NOW shifts into the theory of a METEOR. In the span of about 15 minutes, its discovered that people from as far away as GEORGIA saw the flash (even though they may not have heard it) and NOW we have the MOST plausible theory - a METEOR. Currently the experts at NASA and NWS are saying thats what happened... so THATS the story of how WE heard and relayed the story. We, as humans, are obviously still FASCINATED by whats up in the sky - if not a little more CONCERNED when something in the sky makes a HUGE BOOM! Thanks for reading. Would like to hear your reports of what you saw and heard! --Spencer
