Crazy turn of events in the Callahan household this week!!! Over the last year weve been on the hunt for a property in a very specific area of Great Barrington. After searching like crazy, waiting for the right home to come on and not finding anything we like, we decided to buy a lot of land and build our own home. Weve been going through all the motions, lining up contractors, getting ready to build, etc. etc. THEN....... This past Sunday our realtor sent us a listing, right in the area we were planning on building. He asked if we know anyone who might be interested in this and stated that it was going on the market tomorrow. I saw the place, saw the pics, saw the price and immediately said to Amy that I want to look at it. Her response in an angry/frustrated tone: Why cant you just focus on what were doing. We own a lot of land that we are building a house on. Somehow I convinced her to go and see the house. She was just going to appease me. WELL........ We walked in the house and both fell absolutely in love with it. 1. Its WAY BELOW our means (something we believe strongly in). 2. Its in absolute mint condition. 3. Building a home is CRAZY EXPENSIVE right now and it would cost us $200k more to build this home. 4. EVERYTHING in the home is updated. 5. It has everything we want in a home... 6. We were honestly overwhelmed with the thought of building a home with 3 small kids. SO..... Right there, on the spot, while we were still in the house we made a full price offer. They accepted and we just re-listed our land we own (which has gone up in value.... score!!).
