Credibility Matters PC Young Oct 27 2014 “Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. ” ― George Orwell Late last Year when Obama was caught in one of his most infamous lies (you can keep your doctor if you like your doctor) public sentiment began to shift. To counter obamas epic falsehood Democratic/Liberal pundits initiated the excuse clause by saying that we know that politicians lie. Well yes and no. It depends on what and how many times and whether its a comment taken out of context a misquote.... Intention has real meaning in this case. The intent to lie explicitly implicates intent to deceive. But we here need to get closer to home, to our own neighborhood and to our local politics. To those who are running for Mayor , for City Council or any other local office. They count immediately rather than the national figures we rarely meet know less and consider more corrupt. There is a question we might ask about those running for local office; understanding those leering words I quoted rarely have much to do with our local politicians. Whereas status and ego and money and power sill involved; local politicians are immediately available and therefore more accountable to their constituents. However, there is one element which remains consistent and is especially true during election or reelection: Are they lying , misspoken or are the words they use inconsistent , contradictory such that observing them paying attention to their words makes you conclude they are trying to deceive in order to win? Politics as an art lends itself to lying. The numbers of facts and the careful articulation of them is subject to misinterpretation, misquoting and edit and taking out of context. It is difficult to work as a representative in a political office and not be subjected to situations where your articulating on a subject is not misconstrued as lying in some way. Nonetheless , we , as the responsible for vetting politicians must take all this into consideration and summarize our assessment of those running into two general categories: Those who tell the truth to the best of their ability or those who try to deceive. The differences are substantial. We know of those who will say anything to get elected and there are those who say what they mean and it is consistent and meaningful to our desires for a representative we can trust and will tell us the truth when we need it the most. These are important differences which if not considered now , before becoming elected, will lead to greater issues later. Once you give people power and authority only a rare few will be willing to give that authority, status or power away. Most will desire more, more influence and more authority to dictate to you. Whatever power they may now can become almost infinity greater upon a coalition with a larger agency. In Local matters involvement with the state or federal agencies can lead to the effective overrunning and inundation of local authority. The redundancy of local authority is completely contrary and abhorrent to most communities as state or federal hegemony will inevitably occur and the elected representative will morph into a mere liaison - a mouthpiece. Subsidiarity is a central principle of Conservatives: If something can be accomplished with local control then let it remain local.
