Credits- N.E Project Photo: ScarySoul Make-up: Nio Tan Helping hand:Mujiib Making armor is a really really tough and tiring job. It took me 1 month of sleep lacking to even almost complete this. (I was surprised the costume lasted throughout the whole shoot). The few things Id like to inform cosplayers if youre thinking to make craft foam armor. Dont start heads on without having ammunition. A.k.a researching and consulting. I used several Google pages for researching the best and most available methods for creating the armor. For this one I planned everything with paper first, used craft foam, sealed with pva glue, covering imperfections with latex caulk, sanded with sandpapers of 2 different grits, sprayed with acrylic lacquer, weathered with oil paint, with a finished coating of clear lacquer and secured with Velcro and garters. Yes there are lots of components to think about: materials, sealing, sanding, hole covering, coloring, varnishing. Dont start without adequate amount of research and a good time at your hands to go material hunting (cheap is gold) or you will lose alot of your money and have a hectic time. Secondly, your contacts are your allies. Nio-tan was my inspiration for this armor with her wonderful fate stay night costume (great craftsmanship) and I consulted her with a butt load of questions in completion of my riven armor planning in order to get everything right before I start. The most important key she told me was to plan everything first on paper, possibly try it on, and then cut it out on foam. And I did, I didnt use more than 8 rolls of foam. Helping hands are always a bliss and Racheal Newn, Travis Wong and Jacky Chow were there to help me whenever I needed some. Rachel helped me alot on the body piece as I needed a sculpted cast of my own body and we went with the paper tape route. Jacky was there to help me be realistic and encouraged me to watch my spending, Travis well, helped whenever I needed something to be thrown at me, like a roll of tissue to wipe off my blood sweat and tears. Tailors are great and I especially enjoy being in the service of chong hock with their variety of foam bewbs and eccentric buttons. They helped in seeing a hood onto my shirt and decorating my clothes for only $20. Thank you! On the day before the deadline I completed the costume at 5a.m and thankfully I didnt slack too much. On the photo shoot day however was a very fun time, I let nio-tan transform my face with her makeup skills and in choreographing my poses. Scary had a fabulous array of photography equipment which comes with great skills. On the background, I have to thank mujib for being a great help in holding my sword into position. N.E Project is awesome when it comes to cosplay photography and I recommend consulting them with any issues or requests on photo shoots. :) very friendly bunch of people. Its a long journey ahead, but Ive got your back, inbox me with any questions your interested in, especially when it comes to buying cheap and durable material around Brunei. Jump up your level on a cosplay and craftsman rank and never forget to enjoy the process of creating or trying to create foam armor!
