Crews from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Department of Forestry and City of Eugene successfully burned the 80-acre Fisher Butte unit of our Fern Ridge Natural Research area west of Eugene yesterday. Conditions aligned perfectly for a safe controlled burn with excellent smoke management. The burn will help improve nesting habitat for grassland birds and promote growth of endangered wildflowers. The Rivers to Ridges partnership will continue to conduct controlled ecological burns in the Eugene-Springfield area in coming days as conditions allow.
