Crimea, UKRAINE: Ukrainian Greek Catholic Military Chaplain Released In the late hours of Saturday, March 15, the Information Department of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (UGCC) reported that Fr. Mykola Kvychko, a UGCC parish priest who also serves as head chaplain for Ukrainian Naval Forces in Crimea, was released by the “security organs of Crimea”. He had been taken by unidentified armed persons earlier in the day, in front of his parish church in Sevastopil. Fr. Mykola was accused of “organizing provocations”, and cited for an “administrative violation.” Father Mykola categorically denied the allegations and stated that he intends to remain in Crimea to minister to his faithful. He is scheduled to appear in court in two weeks time to respond to the accusations. The past month priests of the UGCC have received written and spoken threats, demanding they leave the territory of Crimea.
