Crimea and the Ukraine were part of Russia for longer than the - TopicsExpress

Crimea and the Ukraine were part of Russia for longer than the United States has been a country. Crimea specifically is a majority Russian and Tatar. The only reason it is now part of Ukraine was a quirk of Soviet leaders in 1954 who added it to Ukraine to ease tensions after previous Soviet policy had starved several million Ukrainian farmers. After the break up of the Soviet Union it was agreed that until 2042 Crimea would continue to host the Southern Russian naval fleet and a military base with up to 25,000 Russian troops--note Putins supposed acts of aggression by building up an army preparing for invasion still have not exceeded the 25,000 troop limit that he is allowed. This naval base is key to Russias national defense as it is their primary Southern port, the rest of Russias ports are ice locked much of the year. This is not an invasion or anything close to it. It would be like if there was political unrest in Germany, and media started saying the US was invading Germany because we already have 50,000 troops on a base there, as if they just burrowed out of the ground magically. Meanwhile, on March 16th 82% of Crimeans turned to vote on the issue and some 90%+ voted to separate from the Ukraine completely and to become self-determined. This is the exact same thing the Ukraine did to separate from Russia, similar events took place in Kosovo and Serbia and the US supported this natural right of people to separate from each other both times (note the Declaration of Independence 1776 whose very premise is the natural right to self-determination). However, the neo-conservatives in tandem with the Obama administration are the very ones responsible for the coup which has lead to the dissolution of the formerly peaceful Ukrainian government, have appointed their own puppet oligarchs from wealthy families to lead the country, people who have supported intolerably oppressive measures against the ethnic minorities in Ukraine including Tatars and Russians in Crimea. The US has pushed Russia into a catch 22. On the one hand our media tells us Putin must stay out of the conflict (though weve appointed ourselves to be referees, though we have no history or shared culture with the region), meanwhile, John Kerry has said publicly that if Putin refuses to intervene and stop Crimea from breaking apart from the Ukraine we will make him pay for it dearly. This entire scheme is an intentional design to grant the US imperialists control of the Ukrainian pipe line while simultaneously crippling the Russian navy. A century ago this was the type of stuff that provoked WWI, and the mistreatment of German minorities in the Rhineland by the Poles is what ultimately motivated WWII. This is no light matter when the two largest nuclear powers are at odds. And despite the Western medias smearing campaign, Putin remains the calm one. He has said he will use no military power in the region unless violence is used specifically at the Russian and Tatar minorities in Crimea. Considering everything, this a highly conservative stance. He has already tolerated the proposal of laws by the new Ukrainian nationalist government outlawing the Russian and Tatar languages in Crimea--fortunately the Western puppet masters demanded these laws be put aside until the conflict is resolved. What you have is an ethnic and cultural tinder box akin to Palestine and Israel, and the US in typical megalomaniacal fashion marches in with a blow torch to stir things up in an area where various people, in spite their many deep differences, had been living in peace for over half a century. Dont believe the hype.
