Critics Create Solution Pollution Have you ever been really excited about something that you believed God was doing in your life only to have friends and family “shoot you down?” Or maybe you had a belief or an opinion that you were passionate about until folks who didn’t share your belief or passion ridiculed you? Years ago one of my favorite authors, John C. Maxwell, shared a phrase describing these very people: “Critics create solution pollution.” There will always be people who are critical of you- of your successes, of your personality, of your passions, beliefs and opinions. That’s because there will always be people who are envious of you- people who feel threatened by your ideas, dreams and goals in life. Your ideas may threaten their false sense of security and your hard work and idealism probably sheds too much light against the areas of their lives where they have settled for mediocrity. The bible is filled with stories of people who dreamed big dreams who were ridiculed by people who felt threatened by those dreams: Abel, Noah, Abraham, Daniel, Job, David, Stephen and Jesus, just to name a few, were all ridiculed by friends, family and even the religious community for seeking to dream a bigger dream and live life in a better world shaped by those dreams. So the next time you are ridiculed or discouraged or called names for dreaming big dreams for God and making the world a better world for all, remember- you are in great company! The critics- well, they are merely envious of you and threatened by your passions and successes… that’s why they scream so loud… they only want to create solution pollution! Now get out there and dream big dreams- go be you and change the world!
