Crop Talk Richard Clark 4 July 09:11 I have a question / debate topic. Im a farmers son cutting out a careers designing Diesel engines so come at this issue from a simple mathematical perspective. I have seen hundreds of acres of wheat sprayed off in May/June this year to prevent blackgrass seeding. What is the benefit of this over fallowing? My opinion is that youve paid for your seed, chemicals, labour fuel. Yes, youll get a reduced yield due to the BG but more than spraying it off. Then fallowing the following year costs less on inputs and gives the opportunity for more kills/germination. Or have I missed some biological fundamental of BG? Id be really interested to hear some views as blackgrass looks terrible this year and with chemical resistance only looks like getting worse. Regards Richard
