Crucified and Resurrected with Christ The events of the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ are history. And their Divine significance lies definitely not in the annual tradition of wailing the death of Christ on Good Friday and hailing the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday. In fact, when the annual traditional observance of these events is over, many settle back to their normal living caring little of the effect that God intends the death and resurrection of Christ to have on their lives. But for those who care and have responded in faith to the Divine impact of the death and resurrection of Christ on humanity, the death and resurrection of Christ together unleash in their lives the greatest miracle that God has wrought for fallen humanity. This miracle wrought by God for mankind through the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ must be accepted by faith or personalized by everyone who wants to experience its full impact and benefit. It is not enough to know the history and doctrine and take part in the annual traditional observance of the death and resurrection of Christ. What is necessary is for each of us to grasp the revelation of the wonderful benefits that the death and resurrection of Christ brought forth for each of us individually and to know that each of us can experience through faith the miraculous impact of the death and resurrection of Christ in our lives. In other words, it is necessary that you and me as individuals internalize the truth that we have been crucified with Christ to bring to death and to an effective end our old nature of sin and have been raised with Christ to live in and through Christ a new powerful and righteous life. Hence, taking up and personalizing the Cross of Christ as our own crucifixion, we can boldly deny the existence of our old self and identify with and follow Christ in the glory and power of His resurrection life. This calls for a possession of faith generated by meditating on, hearing, and understanding the true message of the Gospel. And through this faith we can declare with confidence that it is no longer our old selves that live, we are no longer in the flesh, sin no longer has dominion over us, the Spirit of life in Christ has set us free from sin and death, and we now live and walk by faith in the power and life of the righteousness of God in Christ. Romans 6:4-6: Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. Galatians 2:20: I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Ephesians 2:4-6: But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
