Cuba and the Holy See: 79 Years of Diplomatic Relations 2014-05-03 Seeing history through pictures-thats the purpose of this photo exhibit. It traces the diplomatic relationship between Cuba and the Holy See. Its a relationship thats had its ups and downs, but in the last two decades, there have been key moments that have defined their ties. RODNEY ALEJANDRO LOPEZ CLEMENTE Cubas Ambassador to the Holy See Theres the meeting between Fidel Castro and John Paul II and well as meetings with different cardinals. Then theres the Popes visit to Cuba. The Mass he celebrated in Santiago, Camaguey and of course theres also Benedict XVIs visit and his Mass in Santiago and La Habana.” Cubas embassy decided to organize the exhibit in a local Roman parish, since 2014 marks 79 years since both states established diplomatic relations. Despite the line of tension between the Communist island and the Catholic Church, improvements have been made. The Cuban Embassy to the Holy See, says its looking forward to what the future brings.
