Cuban culture arrives in cairns with the inaugural FNQ FESTIVAL CUBANO Cuban music dance and culture will hit cairns on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of November 2013 in style. Headlining the festival are workshops hosted by world class Cuban dance instructors Adrian Medina, Christina Monneron, Greydis Montero Liranza, and Israel Ortiz Castellanos. Our four amazing instructors and performers will take you on a journey of Cuban dance throughout the ages, starting with the Afro Cuban tribal roots we will travel through time to end up with the modern day dance we know as Salsa. The festival kicks off with a welcome to country ceremony followed by a fundraising dance party. Our major sponsor The Reef Hotel Casino will be hosting Cuban dance party nights on Friday 1st November and Saturday 2nd November, featuring the highly acclaimed AFROCUBAN SALSA ENSEMBLE CHUKALE. Festival committee spokesperson, President Joanne Fairbairn (Salsa Jo) said “We want to make the community highlight a gala fundraiser on Friday 1st November at the vertigo bar and lounge for the FNQ Hospital Foundation’s Paediatric Playground. It is hoped that we can raise at least $2000 to go towards this worthwhile cause. During the course of the night we will be holding a silent auction. Up for bid are a dance with the instructors and committee members. “The theme for this evening is WHITE NIGHT. We ask those who come along to dress up In their formal white attire, as white is a highly symbolic colour to the culture of Cuba”.
