Cubby here from Cubbies Corner . Let me tell you about my christmas of 1973 . I keep hearing people tell me how bad there day is today & Gee I didnt get to many presents for people or under the tree. My day SUCKS Cub . St Mere eglies Drop Zone December 1973 just before Xmas . We ( 1st Battalion 508th ,and 505th ABN INF) and our support group 1/319th . We hit the drop zone jumping from a C130 Hercules . My first SGT Top Smith landed close to me . As Top & I was crossing the DZ to our AO we watched the second load out . In come a streamer ( Chute didnt deploy . Sgt Wayne Brown landed rate in front of us . Coming in at a 125 miles an hour at 1200 feet . He bounched of the sand . Top and I walked over to him . His body was like jello . Brown had blood coming out of his face and hands . I bent down and he whispered I,m alright . and died . At the end of the day we dragged our butts in to Garrison . PVT Ray Lindsey was getting out in a few days . I went to the cement steps leading to the Barracks . I heard a bang . Gun short . It was Lindsey . He laid on his right side took his M16 butt placed it between his legs and put the barrel between his forehead and pulled the trigger . That was in one day . Few months later we had 38 casualties in ONE day on a wet April day on operation Exotic Dancer . I had other days like this .So do me a Favor . Dont tell me how much your Day SUCKS . You dont know what SUCK is . Please dont forget our Troops so many do . Some of there days really SUCK. Enjoy your day and your families
