Culpeper men indicted on federal drug charges Star-Exponent staff A federal grand jury recently indicted three Culpeper men on a variety of drug charges including dealing near a Charlottesville playground. James Alexander Clore, 23, faces the most charges: conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, conspiracy to distribute heroin, four counts of distributing crack cocaine, four counts of distributing a controlled substance near a playground; two counts of attempting to distribute crack, distributing heroin and two counts of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to an August 1 news release from the U.S. Attorneys Office Western District of Virginia. Solomon Anthony Francis, 25, was charged with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, conspiracy to distribute heroin, distributing crack cocaine, distributing heroin and distributing a controlled substance near a playground. Marcus Lee Strother, 23, in the indictment returned July 23, was charged with conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine, conspiracy to distribute heroin and two counts of distributing a controlled substance near a playground, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office. Charges placed against the Culpeper suspects was part of a larger federal narcotics ring indictment that included another five Albemarle County men. According to the indictment, members of the group conspired to distribute more than 280 grams of crack and a measurable amount of heroin from January 2013 to present. The apparent ringleader, Renee Harris, 43, of Charlottesville is accused of maintaining a drug house at 366 Riverside Avenue in Charlottesville, within 1,000 feet of Christ Community Church and Riverview Park, where two public playgrounds are located, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office. The home is located in the Pantops area of Charlottesville. The investigative team included the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Task Force, Charlottesville Police Department, Albemarle County PD, FBI, DEA, the Culpeper PD and the commonwealths attorneys offices for the city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County. Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph Plantania and Elliott Casey and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald Huber are prosecuting the case.
