Protecting heritage is inseparable from protecting populations, because heritage enshrines a people’s values and identities. During last days, a serous of terrorist and intentional explosions has happened and a serious damage has already been inflicted on Mosel’s heritage. This is a severe and brutal crime that has been done against these sites. This is destroying the history, heritages, and identification of Iraqi people. Witnesses said the militants destroyed symbols of Iraq’s heritage in the city of Mosul, including statues of cultural icons and the tomb of a medieval philosopher. One of these sites is the holy site is said to be the burial place of the prophet Jonah, who was swallowed by a whale or great fish in the Islamic and Judeo-Christian traditions, and where King Esarhaddon had once built a palace.
