Cultural tourism bringing colonization and commodification of sacred ceremonies and plant relatives to Indigenous peoples - who have been likely been forced into selling ceremony by the socio-economic devastation of colonialism. People who have no business offering this ceremony get elevated to shaman status potentially erasing or making invisible the authentic voices of Indigenous activists or culturally authentic spiritual people who really do have power. People of European heritage messing with a plant relative that we dont have a relationship with, and never did, which has resulted in people being damaged or killed. Encouraging people of European heritage to deepen themselves into colonial theft and taking of whatever we want, instead of decolonizing into our own ancestral lifeways and understandings. God forbid we actually do anything thats challenging or hard - especially when we can write a $2000 check and get it when we want it. Stop taking culture and ceremony from other people and FIND YOUR OWN. —Naomi Archer on the settler-colonial engagement with Ayahuasca, Peyote, etc.
