Culture Days in the Square Join us and get involved in the biggest "Culture Days" celebration in Victoria! The Victoria African Caribbean Cultural Society (VACCS) & Ethno Concept-Culture present Culture Days in the Square, on September 28th and 29th, 2013. The event’s primary goal is to follow “Culture Days” guidelines and promote inclusivity, awareness, engagement and participation in art and culture for all Canadians. Therefore, the VACCS and Ethno Concept-Culture would like to invite individual artists, diverse cultural groups, organizations to take part in this event to create the largest Culture Days event on Vancouver Island. We would love to see the event filled with a variety of artists, artisans, organizations, members of the community and anyone who wants to share his/her knowledge of culture and the arts. There are many possibilities to get involved: Dates and hours: Friday, September 27th Official Launch (Hours TBA) Saturday, September 28th Noon to 6PM Sunday, September 29th 11AM to 5PM Information Booths: Available to non-profit organizations, community associations, businesses and others who want to promote their services relative to culture and the arts. Workshop Booths: Culture Days in the Square’s mission is “to invite the public to participate ‘behind-the-scenes,’ to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, designers and other creative people in their communities.” This is why workshops are important. We welcome non-profit organizations, community associations, businesses, performers and the like, to join us and offer free fun and interactive workshops. (i.e. stories, paintings, creative writing, poetry) We are open to creativity and suggestions! Centennial Square Stage: There is a full day of performances to book, and we are looking for musicians, dancers, artists and others to participate and celebrate with us. A small honorarium will be provided for stage participants. Please send us your performance details including: Genre/Activity (dancing, singing, drumming, etc) Name of Group # of Participants in the Group Technical Requirements Performance Time (30-45 minutes would be ideal) Market: The Market is available for non-profit organizations, community associations, businesses and others to sell products during the event. The goal is to promote local artists and artisans from the Greater Victoria Region. International Food Village: This area offers the audience a chance to discover the diverse cultural palates that exist in the Greater Victoria Area. Space for Food Trucks and tents are limited and there is an entry fee. All applicants are required to provide their VIHA approved ID number. Kids Zone: We would like to add a kid’s zone area to the event to make it fun for kids. We are seeking for an organization, a company or a group of performers to organize fun and interactive activities for this segment of the program. Please note that anyone, professional or not, can participate in this event to promote culture and the arts with the audience. Also, we will try our best to provide each kiosk (workshop and information booths) with a 10X10 pop-up tent, a table and two chairs. If you have your own equipment or need more than what is mentioned above, please let us know in your registration email. We are looking forward to hearing from you! Together, we can create something memorable!
