Curiosity, Confidence, Challenge! – a statewide science, technology, engineering and math conference for middle school girls – will be held at Sycamore School on Saturday, March 8 from 8:30am - 3:00pm. The event is designed to heighten girls’ interest in scientific careers and help them select high school courses that will lead to success in college. The conference features a series of small group workshops led by women whose professions include architecture, biology, materials engineering, computer programming, veterinary medicine, and many more! Registrants will select four workshop preferences from a list of 27 disciplines. The conference will also feature two special science-related assemblies for all attendees: Animal Adaptations by Take Flight! Wildlife Education, and Good Vibrations – Sound Science by Science Central. Sycamore parent Dr. Catherine Hagerman Pangan will lead a lunchtime theater program, Science Shake Up: Thinking About Science in New Ways. Although parents may not attend the workshops with their daughters, they are encouraged to attend a free parent forum from 2:00-3:00 in the theater. Carlabeth E. Mathias, Mathias Counseling and Consulting, will present Confident Girls: Building Friendships and Handling Conflicts. This event is open to any girl in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. Sycamore girls in 5th grade are also invited to attend. The cost to attend is $35, which includes lunch. Click to register online, or click to print a mail-in registration form. Registration is limited to 400 girls and must be received by Feb. 28, 2014. We hope to see your daughter at the conference! ow.ly/te4id
