Current Attorney General of Texas and Governor-Elect Gregory - TopicsExpress

Current Attorney General of Texas and Governor-Elect Gregory Abbott released a statement shortly after the president’s address Thursday night that said he was preparing to challenge in court Obama’s executive amnesty for five million illegal immigrants already in the country. “President Obama has circumvented Congress and deliberately bypassed the will of the American people, eroding the very foundation of our nation’s Constitution and bestowing a legacy of lawlessness,” Abbot said in his brief statement, according to Fox News. Perhaps more than any other state in the nation, Texas understands the results of the federal government’s failure to secure the border and enforce the country’s immigration laws. “Texans have witnessed firsthand the costs and consequences caused by President Obama’s dictatorial immigration policy and now we must work together toward a solution in fixing our broken immigration system,” Abbott said. And, as usual, Texas has no plans to stand aside and let an imperial president lawlessly enact his will against the wishes of the American people. “Following tonight’s pronouncement, I am prepared to immediately challenge President Obama in court, securing our state’s sovereignty and guaranteeing the rule of law as it was intended under the Constitution,” Abbott’s statement concluded. Texans are not known for their subtlety, and Abbott is no exception. He has issued a direct challenge to President Obama’s lawlessness, as have several other Republican governors, and we fully expect him to see it through. If Obama is wise, he will consider his next move carefully. The last Democrat to face up to Greg Abbott didn’t fare so well.
