Currently at Jaisalmer a desert city of about 70000 people half of whom work for the indian defence force. This is called the yellow city due to the colour of the building blocks. On the hill is a fort of about 300mby 200m and consists of some 400 houses and palaces. You enter thru 4 gates 50m apart where they pelted you with rocks if trying to invade , the fort has never been breached in over 1000 years,but about 300years ago 30000 Indians from another state sat outside for 6 years until all food ran out. The locals then decided to fight to the end which was obvious as they were outnumbered 300 to one! However before they went to battle all women lit a giant bonfire in the main centre(about 50by 30m) and threw themselves from the walls onto the fire! Off now for the proverbial Camel ride into the dunes and then back to the Palace resort (yes another Palace) Garry F
