Curse of Chucky: The ginger doll returns to screen in the sixth - TopicsExpress

Curse of Chucky: The ginger doll returns to screen in the sixth installment of the “Child’s Play” series. An unmarked package is delivered to the home of wheelchair bound Nica and her mother. Once Nica and her mother open the unmarked package they are surprised to find that it carries the famous Good Guy Doll, but it’s the evil within the doll that brings on death within the house. In an attempt to keep Chucky alive and relevant, the studios released a straight to DVD movie, probably due to the failures of “Seed of Chucky”. I really enjoyed the first three films in the “Child’s Play” series but then someone at the studios thought it was a bright idea to turn the franchise into a comedy with “The Bride of Chucky” and “Seed of Chucky”, ultimately damning the series forever. Once I heard “Curse of Chucky” would omit the last two films and returning to its roots of darkness that made the originals so exciting, I got excited. My excitement was quickly diminished once the film began. First of all, I’m very aware the film had a small budget of 5 million dollars, but you are telling me that they couldn’t get the original doll from all the previous films???? That threw me off a bit seeing that the doll looks a little different and awkward. I still remained optimistic but I really couldn’t look past the bad dialogue, acting and story. “Curse of Chucky” tries to have ties to the original but fails beyond belief. I’m disappointed that the studios attempted to go back to Chucky roots but still can’t get it right. Chucky remains dead and doesn’t look to have a future. Stay away unless you have nothing else to do and have a free Redbox coupon. (D) OUT ON DVD AND BLURAY 01 OCT 2013
