Cutting Edge Forum—Exploring the Unexplained Artist Den Poitras to Speak on Virgin Birth At The Jaffrey Civic Center On Thursday, July 11, 7:30 p.m. The scientific term for virgin birth or immaculate conception is parthenogenesis. Did women once possess this ability to self-conceive? Do they still? The public is invited to explore these questions as independent artist, musician and researcher Den Poitras presents The History and Mystery of Virgin Birth on Thursday, July 11, 7:30 p.m., at the Jaffrey Civic Center. Poitras, a member and exhibitor of Vermont Artisans of Brattleboro, has exhibited his work from Boston to Florida, New Mexico, Nevada, and beyond. A strong male advocate of what many refer to as the return to the Sacred Feminine, he has been studying parthenogenesis for over 40 years. The theme has appeared in art throughout the ages, from classical Greek mythology to modern day illustrations by primarily female artists. A slide show of such images will complement the presentation, appropriate for anyone able to appreciate a stroll through an art museum. Poitras considers parthenogenesis to be “the jewel in the crown of re-emerging knowledge regarding women’s mysteries.” He will cover why is it claimed that Jesus and Buddha, to name a few, were conceived this way, and share stories of virgin birth from numerous cultures around the world, including at least three Native American tribes who retain the mythic-knowledge of parthenogenesis in their oral traditions and include it in their ancient rituals and ceremony. Cutting Edge Forum—Exploring the Unexplained is a live discussion series designed to facilitate serious consideration of subjects once little known, or viewed as enigmatic. Its goal is to offer a local forum in which qualified individuals may speak openly on such topics in a respectful environment where all in attendance are free to reach their own conclusions.
