Cuyahoga County Council renames chambers in honor of outgoing President C. Ellen Connally CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County Council voted to honor outgoing President C. Ellen Connally on Tuesday by renaming council chambers after her. Council Vice-President Dan Brady said the designation of the chambers, located on the fourth floor of the new county headquarters, will stand as a testament to Connally’s leadership as council’s first leader. He said Connally’s vision has established the 11-member body as one that is independent and bipartisan. Council staff said some type of signage will eventually be installed to reflect the chambers’ new name. Connally, a Democrat and retired Cleveland Municipal Judge, announced earlier this year she would not seek re-election. She has led council since it was created in 2011. The year before, residents voted to abolish the former county government, led by a three-member county commission, and replace it with council and an elected executive following a corruption scandal. Council otherwise marked Connally’s departure with a 45-minute ceremony capping council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, the last that’s scheduled before Connally leaves office at the end of the year.
