#Cyclonic_storm_Lehar advances towards Andhra coast. HYDERABAD: The severe cyclonic storm Lehar, which is likely to cross Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday, moved west-northwestward over southeast Bay of Bengal with a speed of 15 km per hour, on Monday. India Metrological Department (IMD) said the cyclone was stationed at a point 1250 km east-west of Machilipattanam port and it is expected to make land fall across the coast between Machilipattanam and Kalingapattanam near Kakinada on November 28. The system would intensify further gradually into a very severe cyclonic storm and would move west-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday, said an IMD communique. Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph would commence along and off Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts from Wednesday evening. It would increase in intensity with gale wind speed reaching 170-180 kmph gusting to 200 kmph along and off coastal districts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south coastal Andhra Pradesh at the time of landfall. Rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 24 hrs. Gale winds speed reaching 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph is expected to prevail along and off Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 6 hours and gradually decrease thereafter. Storm surge of about 0.5-1.0 metre height above astronomical tide would inundate the low lying areas of Andaman & Nicobar Islands within 100 km from the landfall point during next six hours and decrease thereafter, said an IMD officail. Sea condition will be high to very high along and off Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 12 hrs. Forecasting moderate rainfall at many places to commence from Wednesday afternoon over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha, the IMD has advised total suspension of fishing operations. The IM said with the storm intensifying it would gradually increase with rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls over north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. And southern Odisha will receive isolated heavy rainfall on the day.
