DAILY CHALLENGE!!! 2nd Samuel Chapter 20 This is a tough chapter. Joab murders Asama presumably because David now King again has appointed Asama as head of the army and not Joab. I question David’s motives for appointing Asama after rereading 2 Samuel 17 (wear David son had appointed Asama as head of his army) and then 2 Samuel 19 where David is trying to convince the priests to come back to him and promises to have Asama over the army that David’s appointment of Asama over the army. Was this a political appointee? Was this David’s move against Joab for killing his son? Joab and David had been together for a long time and though many battles. Did the fact of Joab’s decision not to follow the David’s words exactly cause David to not doubt his head of the army and as such needing to replace him? We do not know exactly. Whatever the motives, we know Joab’s opinion of David’s decision. Joab murders Asama and then takes control of the army, following David’s direction mind you and then is appointed again over the army. How do we react when people like Joab force our hand and put us into very difficult positions? This is what I have gotten out of the text-how about you Have a great day everyone.
