Meanwhile, various groups and organizations condemned the arrest of Dr Nissar-ul-Hassan. Society of Consultant Doctors (SCD) has taken serious note of the continuous detention of the DAK president. The Society has called for his immediate release. Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir also denounced Dr Hassan’s arrest and called it an attempt to save culprits involved in spurious drug scandal. “His arrest is illegal and an attempt to shield culprits who are highly influential,” Jama’at spokesman said in a statement, adding; “It is very unfortunate that a dedicated and honest doctor who raised a public cause instead of being rewarded got punished which clearly depicts that honesty is against the state policy here and only dishonest and fraudulent officers have a chance to prosper here.” President Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Abdul Qayoom Wani has strongly condemned Dr Hassan’s arrest. “We strongly felt that his arrest marks the callous attitude of the government towards the spurious drug scam. The spurious drug issue is not merely a trade union issue but it concerns the whole society hence his arrest is directly an anti-people step which could not be tolerated,” Qayoom said in a statement. The statement said the EJAC leaders today held a meeting and reiterated their support to the joint forum headed by Dr Hassan. Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) today held silent and peaceful protest by wearing black badges to denounce the government apathy towards the sensitive spurious drug scam. “This shows the insensitivity of the state government who show scant respect towards rightful sentiments of the people of the valley. The scam is an issue which people of the valley follow with utmost vigil and care. Inaction against erring officials and arrest of whistle blower is highly unfortunate and condemnable that may lead to frustration and anger among public,” a KEA statement said quoting its Chairman, Yasin Khan. DR SAMEER CONDEMNS ARREST OF DAK PRESIDENT The national spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr Sameer Kaul on Wednesday condemned what he termed as “unwarranted” arrest of the chairman of Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar-ul- Hassan. In a statement Dr Sameer said: “I express anguish at the continuous repression let lose on the various sections of the civil society in Kashmir. This atrocious regime is not even sparing professionals like doctors, engineers and teachers. I strongly condemn the unjustified arrest of the DAK President Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan on the eve of Prime Minister’s visit to Kashmir. Dr Nisar was suddenly picked up during his duty hours. His family members were not even provided his whereabouts.” “This ill conceived action conducted in the guise of national security was retribution for his sincere efforts at highlighting the shameful government inaction in wake of the spurious drug scam in this hapless state,” Dr Sameer said. “This is and other recent anti-people actions can only be seen as impulsive strong armed tactics indulged in by a frustrated government when confronted with large scale discomfort and loss of support of the common masses,” he said. Dr Sameer while referring to recent statement of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said, “I welcome PM’s sensitivity towards our environmental concerns regarding holy Amarnath pilgrimage.” But he was quick to add that New Delhi’s philosophy of winning hearts and minds of people through Mughal Road, Jammu-Srinagar Railway line and Umeed is rudely contradicted by centre overseeing “autocratic insensitive misgovernance in Jammu and Kashmir.” Courtesy: Greaterkashmir
