“DANCE AROUND THE WORLD” With your host: Bruce Hawes, Composer, continues with William Bell’s Stax Records soul-music-classic ”I FORGOT TO BE YOUR LOVER” Featuring: The Great Snoop Dogg: (Click ~See More~ To Read The Entire Article Contained Within This Post) “MAJOR LABELS FORGOT TO BE YOUR LOVER” BH wrote: Through this new record, “I Forgot To Be Your Lover,” Snoop Dogg, (New-School-Music), and William Bell, (Old-School-Music), has proven that the gap between the generations is not as far apart as we thought. But we live in a time when the public has been shut-out from access to great NEW soul-music by Radio One & Clear Channel. These stations will force you to hear yester-year’s music only, and intentionally chosen not to allow the public to hear what their old favorite artists are currently recording and releasing. In the 60s soul music was shut out of the main-stream radio stations too. But there was an underground movement that provided to the public alternatives to the racially segregated radio station’s playlist. It was the Internet of that era and it was called; “FM Radio.” Today, our Internet provides to the public the exact same public access as FM Radio did for the public in the past. And now the internet provides the only access to music alternatives that the monopolies, Radio One & Clear Channel, has selectively chosen to play on its primary music-charts reporting stations. As the past has shown us before, history always repeats itself. And let it be known that in the past Black-music oriented radio stations, and Black owned record label owners banded together and shared their market place and music-programing successfully, and prosperously without the help of major distribution systems as it exist today. How this was accomplished was with independent distributors. Two in articular were out of Atlanta Georgia and Ohio. Now in today’s music market place we have new independent digital distributors like: CD Baby, Tunecore, etc. With the establishment of these independent digital distributors, the majors have recognized that they forgot the independent label market and have created digital distribution companies to compete with the lost revenue to these independent distributors that cater to the independent record labels. UMG has created Ingrooves Digital Distribution Company. Make no mistake about it. This company: “INGROOVES,” is not really an independent distributor because it is a subsidiary of a major corporation, UMG. And this distributor makes it very hard for an independent record label to be chosen to be digitally released through its system. In today’s “Flash & Awe” media, powerful messages of love and life depicted and described in traditional soul-music, similar to this recording, “I FORGOT TO BE YOUR LOVER,” is ignored. Has the majors forgotten a huge music buying market? Yes! Even Billboard magazine has shut down access to the pubic this influential genre in its internationally televised wards program, “SOUL-MUSIC.” And the Academy Of Recording Artists, The Grammy Awards show has done exactly the same thing in their annually televised awards show’s program. Is the reason for this racially motivated? We can only hope that the public is paying attention to the corporate policy trend of the major, labels and monopoly radio stations. I can only encourage the public through my writing of articles and featuring new and older music artists to make their discontent with these establishments known. You can make them quite aware of your need for a different choice in music by supporting alternative, traditional soul-music and Neo-Soul Music. We need everyone to speak-up about this obvious exclusion of music performed by classic-soul-music artists, or Neo Soul Music-Artists which is the next generation of this historical genre. Because, (with this new multi generation performer’s recording), William Bell and Snoop Dogg has proven that the generation-gap does not really exist. This is why I am featuring their new recording today. It seems to me that only the major labels and radio stations forgot their patrons, the real-music-lovers, everyone!!! MAJOR LABELS FORGOT TO BE YOUR LOVER…
