DANCE TYPE: Swing PROFESSIONAL PARTNER: Charlette Thorne STUDIO: Manship Theatre Tracy Donovan Smith was born in Baton Rouge. It was noted on his birth announcement that he would attend L.S.U., which he did, with unbridled enthusiasm. While at Louisiana State University, he was very active in student leadership as Speaker of the L.S.U. Student Senate and the 1993 recipient of the Student Incentive Award for Outstanding Leadership. During his college years, he was aide to Sen. John J. Hainkel, Jr. and aide to Sen. Hank Lauricella as well as legislative liaison for Congressman Richard H. Baker in Washington D.C. He also enlisted as a Combat Medical Specialist (91-A) in the U.S. Army. After graduating, he got his license as an Investment Broker with A.G. Edwards managing client assets and conducting individual and group financial planning seminars. He would then use his medical background to begin a career in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Tracy has been involved and interested in Louisiana politics his entire life. He has worked with some of the most well-respected and admired companies in the world. His professional experience has included positions with A.G. Edwards, Pfizer, and Amgen. In his career he has worked in sales, managed care, competitive research and marketing as well as working with key hospitals and medical schools throughout the south. He has excelled in the U.S. military, medical and biotechnology industry, as a business development specialist, a political and legislative consultant. “Working in the world of politics, law business and entertainment allows me to meet some of the most interesting, intelligent and successful people in the world. I also meet some real colorful characters who keep our business interesting. As a Lobbyist, I have represented everyone from Brad Pitts Make it Right Foundation, Philippe Cousteaus Earth Echo, Physicians groups, Anti-Terrorism, start-up biotech, zydeco singers, technology firms, and software corporations. As a businessman, there are no limits to the industries in which we operate and compete”. WHY BIG BUDDY? I have attended the event on several occasions and have been in awe of the performances. I remember watching guys like Julio Melara, Leo Verde, Leonard Augustus and who could forget Ty Hingle’s spectacular performance of MC Hammer’s “Hammer-time” with the L.S.U. Cheerleaders? So when I received a text message from Ty, I called back and jokingly thought “I bet he wants me to participate in “Dancing for Big Buddy”. To my shock and surprise he did ask me to join this year’s event. I humbly accepted the honor and thought it would be great opportunity to get more involved in the community and give of myself. I believe each and every one of us has something to offer. I am excited to share what I have learned in this lifetime in order to encourage or inspire a Little Buddy to be the best they can be.
