DANS Thoughts on the iRace series: After driving on private - TopicsExpress

DANS Thoughts on the iRace series: After driving on private practice days, club days, super sprints, and the like for 2-3 years in my Silvia. I was having a great time, and thought that the entry level club events were the best bang-for-buck track activity you could get. They are great! But they dont hold a candle to the action and excitement you get in the iRace series. On speaking with an elderly gentleman, and iRace competitor at a Supersprint round in mid 2012. He convinced me that iRace was as attainable & affordable as these entry-level days, but a S#&TLOAD more fun! And how right he was!! After running the final 2 rounds in 2012, I was sold. For the $395 entry fee (all being single day events) slightly higher than a club day, its WELL worth the money. Theyre more professional, and you get much more track time on the day. Plus you actually get to race! Overtaking, standing starts, big fields of capable drivers. It literally is the best fun you can have with your pants on! ;) Qualifying all day (private/club days) is fun. But absolutely NOTHING LIKE THIS! Racing is on a whole other level of fun. And I havent looked back. iRace is now my personal preference for event choice throughout the year. And I cant wait for next season!! Also, a point to note: In Muscle Division, we run Handicap Starts. So ANYONE, in ANY car has a chance to win. This makes the racing more about the driver & less about the size of their wallet. The most consistent driver wins, not the fastest/best supported package. If you run a single set of tyres you can still be competitive!! (any reasonable tyre is acceptable in a Semi or Full slick - no plain street tyres allowed, though itd be a waste to run them anyway) To win, you only have to remain consistent on the day. Which really adds to the overall affordability. Anyone currently running in a competitive series will be able to tell you how high the associated costs are to remain competitive. New tyres every round, Max HP & Min weight to take advantage of class rules, etc. NONE OF THIS COUNTS IN iRACE. I personally have taken a few round wins in my Silvia, against purpose built sports sedans, touring cars, etc. And most of those while it was still street registered! So it proves that a reasonable budget package can be very competitive in this series. And being the friendly, laid back, supportive community that it is. You can afford to show up in your street car, and take it home in one piece. You only have to race as hard as you want. And the majority of the field are calm, collected, and extremely fair when it comes to allowing racing room. Theyre also extremely receptive to new-comers & all are happy to help with tips, lines, race craft & setup. If youve ever thought about doing some proper competitive racing for fun, and on a budget, this is the series for you! So, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?!
