Event is free and open to the public. Occupancy/seating 102 If any of you guys were at the Wiley Coyote in Your Backyard at the college a few years ago this is similar. We need to have a few sportsmen at this meeting to represent us. The last time the room was 50/50 for and against having coyotes roaming around. When asked how many would like to see MORE coyotes half of the audiences hands went up. Its only an hour and a half presentation and there are only 102 seats so lets show up. When you have biologists doing presentations its turns into a survey like 80% of the population wants them left alone. Do a little research and ask direct questions. COYOTES! If you’ve heard late night yelps and howls, seen a dog-like creature trot with quiet purpose through an open space at dusk, or even looked into the eyes of one on your lawn, then you have probably encountered a coyote. We hear them and sometimes see them, but how much do we really know about them? If you’re curious about these mysterious creatures and would like to learn more about them from an expert, please join Dr. Daniel Bogan, Coyote Specialist, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for a special presentation sponsored by the Marbletown Environmental Conservation Commission (ECC) at the Marbletown Community Center on Rt.209, Stone Ridge on April 5, 2014 from 10:00am-1130am. Dr. Bogan will cover topics such as: Are our coyotes related to wolves? Have they assumed the role of top predator? Are they solitary or do they travel in packs? What is the current coyote population and how large might it become? The presentation will include strategies to prevent conflicts and minimize negative interactions while debunking myths about this animal that has adapted so well to human populations. A Q&A will follow. Dr. Bogan is a Lecturer in Environmental Studies at Siena College and a Wildlife Technician (Research) with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in Albany, NY. He earned his PhD in wildlife science from Cornell University in 2012 by studying coyote ecology and interactions with humans. He has participated in research examining raccoons, skunks, coyotes, gray and red foxes, and fishers, typically in suburban and urban landscapes.
