DAVID CAMERON MEETS MD2MD DELEGATES AT LEADERFEST Special guest at our event this year, but doesnt take away from everyone else that contributed to LeaderFest this year, especially David Hyner -inspiring positive gent as always. 28 March 2014: Prime Minister, David Cameron, has attended the annual LeaderFest conference in his home constituency of Witney, hosted by the leadership development group for managing directors of SME businesses, MD2MD. At the conference, the Prime Minister took part in a roundtable lunch discussion with local SME business owners and was keen to hear the mood of the group, particularly given the Chancellor’s budget a fortnight ago and the impression of more positive economic signs for businesses. The event, held this year at Witney Lakes Resort, is now in its fifth year and hosted annually by MD2MD. The day aims to provide entrepreneurial SME leaders with shared experiences and best practice advice to further leverage the economic upturn. It is open to any SME business leader with growth aspirations for their business. The attendance of the Prime Minster was a rare opportunity for local business leaders to discuss their opinions and views on the current business landscape. Bob Bradley, Chairman, MD2MD, comments, “Like many other business leaders, MD2MD members are enthusiastic about driving greater business success. What helps them outperform is their willingness to lift their heads above the day to day and look at how they can develop their leadership and strategy to take advantage of whatever situation they find themselves in. And hearing directly from the Prime Minister the importance he places on great business leadership was really important context for that.” He continues, “SME business leaders are true innovators and drivers for growth, and Leaderfest is a wonderful forum for us all to gather, and reflect and learn from each other for the betterment of both our businesses and the UK economy.” LeaderFest was first held in 2010, as a large-scale version of the intimate monthly meetings held by MD2MD, and gained immense popularity as it provided the occasion for business leaders, whose teams rely on them for direction and advice increasingly during times of recession, to meet and share ideas. Since its inception, the event has grown and now also incorporates an annual survey of SME business leaders’ views on the UK economy. The results of this year’s survey indicate clearly that SMEs believe we are now well into recovery phase and that they are optimistic about their own ability to invest wisely in sustaining growth without falling foul of the numerous risks that remain in the global economy. Bradley comments, “Just as our members recognised five years ago that a recession was imminent and take fast action to protect their business, they recognised a year ago, when others were talking about triple dips, that a sustained recovery was beginning. As a consequence they are now well advanced in capitalising upon the recovery for the benefit of their business” Bradley concludes, “Overall, the day has left leaders with renewed energy and confidence, with endless new possibilities and ideas to apply to their own businesses.”
