DAY 1 OF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND GATEWAY BRACKET RACING COMPLETE Five Fantastic Gateway Classes Featured with NMCA Muscle Car Nationals Saturday, May 24 - Gateway Motorsports Park’s Championship E.T. Bracket Series proved why it features some of the top racers in the sport on Saturday as part of the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals. A long day, due to the large turnout of all cars in all classes, was worth the wait for an event that showcased multiple perfect reaction times and great finish line battles. Corey Landolt, after 7 hard rounds of action, took an easy win in the VP Racing Fuels Super Pro final when opponent Todd Hansen fouled with a -.004. Landolt, coasted through the lights for the win and a $1,000 payday. In the Bud Light/Grey Eagle Distributing Best Light of the Night Award, John Tignor earned the 24 pack of Bud Light for posting his .000 perfect light on a R1 bye run. David Scheer of Granite City earned $850 for his win in the Six-B Apparel Pro class final against St. Charles, Missouri driver Steve Pearson. Scheer lit the win light in round 7 with a .035 reaction time, and a 10.972 at 120.07 miles per hour on a 10.93 dial. Pearson’s last round effort was a .139 reaction time and a 10.189 on a 10.16 dial at 132.01. Tim Schaffer won the Bud Light award with his perfect reaction time on a first round bye run. O’Fallon, Missouri driver Ted Lipka’s 2002 Camaro advanced through six rounds of competition including a tough match up in the quarter finals against Aaron Worstell and James Pearson in the semi-finals before meeting Jim Pearson in the finals. Lipka’s .040 reaction time, 12.141 on a 12.09 dial at 107.15 mph knocked out Pearson’s 1972 Mustang which posted a 12.332 on a 12.25 dial at 102.24 mile per hour. The win netted Lipka $350 and a special NMCA edition trophy. The Bud Light “Best Light of the Night” award went to Ronald Stone King who earned the title for his round 2 reaction of .002. Pro Motorcycle saw Charles Willis, Sr. win not only the overall event but also the Bud Light Award for a perfect run. In the finals of elimination Willis posted a 9.727 on a 9.62 dial at 136.86 over Marcus Taylor and his 9.518 on a 9.40 run at 135.55. Not happy with already walking away with a trophy and a Bud award, Willis decided to do it again in Street Motorcycle…and he decided to do it against the same family. In Street Motorcycle Willis posted a .077 reaction time, a 9.674 on a 9.65 at 140.33 to defeat Marcus Taylor, Jr who had a .206 reaction time and then had to break out with a 9.059 run on a 9.20 dial in hopes of a miracle finish. Race #6 of the Gateway Championship Bracket Series will be held tomorrow (Sunday) on the final day of the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals. The modified event format will feature one round of time trials immediately followed by eliminations.
