DAY #10 of my 21 Day Complaint-Free Adventure: TECHNOLOGY Sometimes I kick myself for ever buying my girls iPods. They used to watch movies (on VHS) with full attention and engagement. Now it’s more like sort of listening to movies while they snapchat. They used to cure boredom by going outside to play. They used to, like, visit with me on the couch. I remember thinking that the best thing was to put it off adding such devices to our lives as long as possible. I see now that I could have put it off even longer. I’m a techy junkie. I like my apple products as much as the next sane girl but, dude, sometimes I give myself to technology way too much. My life has been extremely blessed by the internet and my soul is fed by the connections and friendships that i have BECAUSE of it. Life without these connections feels too small for me. So today, in spite of the temptation to do so, I will not complain about technology. This will include, but not be limited to, complaining: When I’m having tech trouble with something and it’s taking up a lot of time When I’m feeling bombarded with texts/emails/messages If something isn’t fast enough If something isn’t working the way I want it to If I am tempted to blame technology for lack of personal connection When I or other people choose technology as “escape” or “avoidance” When I’m tempted to blame technology for a complicated life experience Because technology, as we know it and in all the ways it has yet to evolve, is a magic wand we’ve been handed to do heaps of good. And I’m so grateful to be able to hold that wand along with the rest of you beautiful people I know because of this miracle.
