DAY #13 – THE PREEMINENT CHRIST: Not everyone who believes in - TopicsExpress

DAY #13 – THE PREEMINENT CHRIST: Not everyone who believes in the virgin birth is convinced that Jesus was conceived to be GOD in flesh. It also raises questions like, how can Christ be both eternal Creator of all things and yet Himself be firstborn? First, referring to Christ as “firstborn”, Paul is talking about preeminence. For example, Ephraim is called the Lord’s “firstborn” (Jeremiah 31:9) even though his brother, Manasseh, was born first (Genesis 41: 51). David is the Lord’s “firstborn” (Psalm 89:27) though being the youngest of Jesse’s sons (1 Samuel 16: 10-13). Both were “firstborn” in the sense of preeminence. Also, Paul refers to Jesus as first born *over* all creation, not firstborn *in* all creation. “He is before all things and in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1: 17) And in the very last chapter of the Bible, Christ refers to Himself as “the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 22: 13). All of Scripture eliminates the possibility that the Christ born of a virgin could be anything less than the preexistent Sovereign of the universe.
