DAY 22 – YOU WERE CREATED TO SERVE GOD ------------------------------------------------------------ Why doesn’t God immediately take us to heaven the moment we accept his grace through Jesus Christ? Why does he leave us in this fallen, filthy and sinful world? We are blessed to be a blessing. We are saved to serve, not to sit around and wait for heaven. Once you are saved, God intends to use you for his goals. For us Christians, service is not optional. It is not something to be tacked onto our busy schedules, if we can spare the time. Service is the heart of the Christian life. Serving God actually means serving people and doing it with a smile. In whatever occupation you find yourself in, there are people you can serve. If your occupation involves serving people, you should do it not for the sake of earning a salary at the end of the month – but for the sake of Christ and for his glory. A “non-serving Christian” is a contradiction in terms. Anytime you use your God-given abilities to serve others, you are fulfilling your calling and serving God. There is no small service to God. It all matters. Similarly, there are no insignificant ministries. Some are visible and some are behind the scenes, but all are valuable. Let all that we do be done in him and for him. We were not created just to consume resources – to eat, breathe and take up space. The Bible is clear on this, “God has created us for a life of good deeds, which he already prepared for us to do.” And again, “God is the one who saved us and chose us for his holy work, not because we deserved it but because that was his plan.” Sin prevented us from doing the ‘holy work’ God had for us. We were literally blind to the truth of God and his service. Sin had blinded us. God redeemed us so we could do his ‘holy work’. We (me and you) are not saved by service, but we’re saved for service. What the LORD told Jeremiah is true for you and me today, “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you. Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work.” – Jeremiah 1:5 In God, you have a place, a purpose, a role and a special function to fulfil. You life has great significance and value. -------------------------------------------------------- Jesus is a loving, compassionate Savior. What a joy to belong to him – and he cares for you.
