DAY 28 - The most thankfulness of days. I was there today. The place where sometimes we all long to be. Its not a clicking your heels together wish, its merely a 30 minute drive for me, for some others Im sure it can be longer. Its a place where our heart goes. A place where memories were made through love. You sit and think about the ones that are spending their day at Papas table. And you are thankful, why, because it the true love memories they have left behind in your heart. The days seem long as we sometimes ache for the chance to be with them again. And my beliefs tell me that one day, I will. I am thankful for the path they have cleared ahead of me. The examples they set before me. The love that they had for me. Its the thankfulness for the people we have encountered along our journey amidst this road that may not always be beautiful yellow colored brick. Sometimes its of busted cobblestone, or sharp rocks, or even grown up pathways of mud. Along this journey you may meet up with your scarecrow (my Uncle Jhon Penn) who is undoubtedly the most intelligent man I know. Who taught me that if nothing else, when one door closes, you can teach yourself to open other doors. Or also happens to have my very first professional recording, 5 little monkeys. Maybe your journey brings you face to face with a lion (my Uncle Bill) who is and always will be the mountain. Who taught me that with great strength and power comes not only greater sacrifice but also greater patience and peacefulness. Not to be timid or back down, but also that its okay to be gentle. Or what if its just the journey itself or the adventure (my Uncle James Bancroft) who taught me to LIVE while you can. Experience life for what it is. Live out your dreams, and its okay to dream. To watch him rock the stage was like none other. Maybe its the sudden change of your surroundings. (my Uncle Gerald Hacker) Sometimes life isnt all black and white. Sometimes life takes a little bit of color. Maybe how we view the world can be a little narrowed or a little skewed. Sometimes maybe life needs to be painted a little more with a broader brush. Then there are those times when we fail, or we are afraid to return home, sometimes because of shame, sometimes because of pride. Sometimes we may need a little comfort from our Auntie Emms (my Aunt Janet and my Aunt Cathy) who lets you know that even though you may have screwed up, you still are loved. Maybe it was just taking a minute to send you a message or give you a book, or to help out whenever needed. But its that feeling that life truly is alright, love can conquer all. But today was more than this. It was where my journey began, and where it leads me to return. Today I am thankful most of all for HOME. Not the physical home where walls and windows surround you and you pass in and out through doors. Home spent most of her day, as usual on this day, in a kitchen. My Home has spent my entire life as my protective shelter. That no matter how stormy life may get, theres always a place to return to. My Home is solid and strong. In fact, my home is the strongest built I have ever seen. My home has withstood lifes tornadoes. Not even the strongest most powerful winds have blown this home down. Many things have attacked my Home, some of which, or actually a lot of this influenced by me. But my Home stood her ground. There are not enough words to describe the beauty of my home. The love of my Home. My homes doors are always open. My Home is comfort where there is chaos, laughter where there is sadness, love where there is loneliness. Today I am most thankful for my home. I love you Mom.
