DAY 327 – YOUR FAITH IN CHRIST IS A SURE INDICATOR OF LIFE IN YOU ------------------------------------------------------ Faith in the LORD Jesus is God’s mark upon the living soul. Imagine a battle-field, with men who have fallen in the fight – many have been killed, many others wounded and lying there confused. The dead are all stark and stiff, covered with their own blood and the wounded are weak, bleeding and unable to leave the spot where they have fallen. The doctors have gone over the field to ascertain which ones are corpses beyond healing, and which ones are wounded and can still be healed. The doctors then mark each living, but wounded person with a paper fastened visibly on his breast. When the soldiers are sent out with ambulances to gather up the wounded, they do not need to determine which ones are dead and which are living – they see the mark upon the living. Faith in the son of God is God’s infallible/ visible mark which he has put upon every poor wounded sinner, whose bleeding heart has received the LORD Jesus Christ. Though he is fainting and feels lifeless as though he is wounded beyond cure, but he certainly lives if he believes – since the possession of Jesus is the sign which cannot deceive. Faith is God’s mark witnessing in unmistakable language – “this soul lives.” The LORD Jesus says, “Most certainly I say to you, he who believes in me has everlasting life.”Regardless of whatever else which we cannot see, if a simple trust in Jesus is detected in a person, we need not be suspicious, but receive at once the one whom the LORD has accepted – for this is the Father’s will, that every one that sees the son and believes on him, may have everlasting live. Having the LORD Jesus Christ becomes a clear evidence of life because in some sense it is the source, fountain and nourishment of life. Here is a hand, “is it alive?” The question which cuts to the main point, “is the hand connected to a living head?” If it is, then the conclusion is inevitable – the hand is most certainly alive. Now, faith by which we receive the son of God is the grace which unites the members with Christ, their living Head. Where there is a union with the son of God, there must be life. As long as the branch is in the stem, it will have life. Even if it is not bearing fruit, but it always has life in itself – because it is in union with the living stem. Friends, having the son of God becomes evidence of life, because he is the source of life. Also, having the son of God is not only the source, but the result of life. When a man receives Jesus into his soul as life from the dead, his faith is the sure indicator of a spiritual and mysterious life within him, in the power of which he is able to receive the Lord. Jesus is freely preached to you, his grace is free as the air, but the dead do not breathe that air—those who breathe it are, beyond all doubt, alive. Christ is presented to you in the preaching of the gospel as freely as the water from the drinking fountain at the corner of the street; but the dead man cannot drink, his lips do not care for the flowing crystal water. He who drinks is evidently alive. The acceptance of Jesus Christ is the sure result of a heavenly life palpitating within the soul. “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his son. He who has the son has life – he who does not have the son of God does not have life.”- 1 John 5:11-12
