DAY 6 of P.T.T.W. 9 GUINEA, WEST AFRICA Mobs in Conakry and Fria protested the deaths of two teenagers. Police in Fria killed a teenager suspected of drug possession. A Fria policeman reports hundreds of youth “armed with sticks, clubs, and even knives looted, ransacked, and set fire to the police station” and two government buildings. A boy died in Conakry from what protesters believe was “negligence” by the treating physicians. According to AFP, many of the boy’s fellow students took to the streets and “began throwing stones at the hospital, breaking windows and damaging cars, wounding several people including three doctors.” In addition, AFP states, “Guinea is regularly rocked by violent protests from residents angered by the deterioration of public services, corruption, and the brutality of police and security forces.” Pray for peace in Guinea. Pray for the Guinea government to address concerns about corruption and police brutality. Ask the Lord to comfort the many who are grieving the children’s deaths (The Bible, Matthew 5:4). THAILAND, SOUTHEAST ASIA In Bangkok, the Constitutional Court invalidated February’s general election by a 6-3 vote. According to the Associated Press, the election was “unconstitutional because voting was not held on the same day in 28 constituencies where protesters prevented candidates from registering.” Secretary General of the Constitutional Court Pimol Thampitakpong says, “The process now is to have a new general election.” Supachai Somcharoen, Election Commission President, believes it will take at least three months for a new election to be held. Pray for the upcoming general election. Pray that protesters will not interfere with the electoral process. Pray for peace in Thailand (The Bible, 2 Thessalonians 3:16).
