DAY OF PERCUSSION UPDATE!!!- As part of our DOP activities, the Florida chapter of PAS is sponsoring a mock professional orchestral audition. This is where aspiring professional percussionists go through the actual process of taking an orchestra audition. This is a VERY difficult process to go through and ,as the saying goes: practice makes perfect. There are relatively few orchestra percussion jobs available and the process is VERY competitive!! We have assembled an impressive panel of judges for this event! Our second panelist profile is Mr.George Nickson: Hailed by the New York Times as, “a performer handling his role with ease and flair,” George Nickson has been the Principal Percussionist of the Sarasota Orchestra since April 2012. He has also performed with the Boston Symphony, Orchestras in Detroit, Honolulu, Naples and the National Orchestra of the Dominican Republic. Mr. Nickson has also served on the faculties of the Juilliard Summer Percussion seminar and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. He has appeared in recital at the Spoleto Festival, the Kennedy Center and the Kravis Center in West Palm beach, Florida. Mr. Nickson has received degrees from both The Juilliard School in New York and New England Conservatory in Boston Massachusetts.
