DC Statehood activists really just need to give up and go for something more reasonable. The idea of a 68.3 square mile city state having two senators and the full trappings of a state is ridiculous and unpalatable to most of the rest of the country. The District of Columbia should be abolished and retroceded back to Maryland. It makes historical and geographical sense, it fits with the goofy precedent of Virginia taking Arlington back, and **most importantly** it wont significantly alter the balance of power in the senate. That means that theres a realistic chance of it passing.
