DEATH PENALTY IN LESOTHO: ITS IMPLICATIONS. After assuming the highest office of the land a fews years ago, Thabane subjected his tireless efforts toward the campaign of revivement of death penalty to those who are found guilty. Yes to those who are found guilty, even him didnt go much into details as to which criteria should the perpetrator be charged with death sentence. This, should coexist with the fact that Lesotho is regarded as a democratic country even though Thabane was putting his full weight behind not only ghastly and barbaric act but also a tremendous undemocratic practice. Subsequently to all this, the most spectated case happend in Lesotho, the state had its case against ritual murderer Lehlohonolo scott. Hold your breathe i will come back to Scott. Last week, a woman was convicted together with her son and other partner in crime for premeditated murder of one elderly woman back in 2009. This woman got death sentence while that reamaining two also got spine shuttering sentences even though they dont amount to that of the woman. Question is, has Lesotho never had any case similar to this one before? What has drove to the extent that the judge had to deliver such unhumanistic sentence in da history of this land since it was last heard of back in the years it was last used? I do realise acting Chief Justice Monaphathi was the judge for this case. The other important question is who is it going to benefit this sentence? This i can guide in da following paragraph. IMPLICATION OF THAT DEATH PENALTY. The reader must observe that death penalty has not been repealed from Lesotho constitution, its just that it wasnt used anymore. Matter is, Scott after he was apprehended, its alleged that he worked with the biggest guys both politically and economically in this land. This means their ass was exposed soon as Scott was locked up, wel i dnt know am just saying. Lets apply Scott case to this death penalty then. Lesotho and South Africa are bilateral countries, they have extradition treaty. Caution, extradition can not be processed within a democratic country and that that doesnt have human rights recognised. Scott now has a strong case not to come to Lesotho and face his demons as now Lesotho has unleashed its barbaric exercise to eat up its citizens too. This gives Scott legal stand not to come to Lesotho and in that case, he might walk free if he present his case accordingly together with his legal team. And so now, my question is, was the death sentence given in order to give Scott a free bail and freedom just like he walked pass through the gates of Maseru Maximum prison? Ke tseo hee.
