DECK THE HALL — THE WELSH CAROL For our last carol of the - TopicsExpress

DECK THE HALL — THE WELSH CAROL For our last carol of the season — at least until Three Kings (unless anyone else cares to post one) — here is that ever-so-ebullient celebration of the Yule, “Deck the Halls,” from the Tabernacle Choir’s matchless 1961 Christmas album. Rumour is that some of our group members have Welsh blood (*cough* Brother David Joseph Davies *cough), and that being the case, those members will no doubt be aware that this carol traces its origins to a 16th-century folk tune from Wales. Indeed, the Welsh lyrics of the song are still readily available, to those who might be interested to look them up. Christmas has always been the present author’s favourite time of year, a time when the whole world dons festive attire and when even the most jaded of us take a Wordsworthian journey back to our childhoods, and no carol better captures that joyful spirit better than this. When the Church next revises its hymn book (as we are told it is in the process of doing), let it, at the very least ,include more Christmas carols within its pages. The many traditional songs that we have posted this week would all make welcome additions to the hymnal. https://youtube/watch?v=N3DXUmdXFkE
