DEISE GOLF WORLD GENTS WINTER LEAGUE ROUND 2 The high scoring in round 2 reflected the wonderful mild conditions we had over the weekend. In Group A Phil Mickelson’s team lead by the inspirational Connor Barrett pipped the very fancied Tiger Woods team. Connor has this team firing on all cylinders with 37pts from Declan Walsh and Frank O Riordan, 36 by Thomas Whelan and 34pts by the team captain himself. Also in this side of the draw saw Paddy O Kennedy, captain of Padraig Harrington’s team, play some high calibre golf. A class act as always, Paddy returned 37pts however they just came up short against Rory McIlory’s team. The final match on Group A resulted in the dark horses of this group, Keegan Bradleys team lead by David Buckley take the 3 pts over Graham McDowell’s team lead by Donal Williams. John Considine, Michael Kelly and Donal Williams returned solid scores this week however these 3 wise men may need to call an emergency team meeting to get this team off the mark. In the other side of the draw there was some exceptional scoring. Luke Donald’s team amassed an amazing 150pts which just edged out Ian Poulter’s team score of 149pts by the slimmest of margins. Luke’s team is lead by Winter League sponsor Graham Nagle(Deise Golf), who lead the team by example with some wonderful iron play, the putts didn’t quite drop but he still returned a creditable 33pts for the team. This was accompanied with 33pts from John Moloney, 38pts from Maurice Terry and an incredible 46pts haul from Dermot Brennan. The next match in Group B resulted in Dustin Johnston team lead by Jimmy O’Donnell have an off week and they were easily overcome by a very solid looking Darren Clarke team lead by Diarmuid O Neill. Liam hansbury one of the inform players lead the way with an inspired 39pts. The final match of Group B resulted in Henrick Stenson’s team lead by Frank O’Donoghue beat Michael O Connor’s Bubba Watson team. Frank really has these guys in tip top shape and they look serious contenders for this year’s title. The best score of Round 2 goes to Dermot Brennan with a sparkling 46pts. Dermot playing off a 16 handicap had two birdies and a gross score of two over par. Exceptional play and one surely to watch for the future.
